They should raze Kent State by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #1 Fri Mar 17, 2006 at 02:25:47 PM EST
really, the massacre, Devo, Bob, just how much can one institution take?

Having two young girls in the house, I watch far too much Nickelodean (watch for an upcoming cartoon diary), and Devo 2.0 seems to occupy that strange neverland (along with Zoey 101) of early pubescent children that Nabokov mined so well (based only on watching the most recent Lolita and an essay in the Atlantic).

But now, given my enjoyment of Devo (my preferred workout music) and taste for the strange and bizarre, I may just have to pick up Devo 2.0, since it doesn't totally suck.

Being a fan, you do probably know that Mothersbaugh is big in children's TV, writing the music for Rug Rats among other things.

VS2FP, of course.

The Album Doesn't Totally Suck by Christopher Robin was Murdered (2.00 / 0) #3 Fri Mar 17, 2006 at 02:34:05 PM EST
Far from it. Devo's involvement really lifts it out of the whole Kidz Bop sing along territory and gives it the sound and power of a real album.

In fact, it probably ranks as the most interesting thing Devo (as Devo, not counting Mutato Muzika soundtrack work and the like) has done in a long time.

If you are a fan, it is worth getting.

I know the "plate of diarrhea" reviewer and that's not just a colorful metaphor. I can personally attest to the fact that they've had ample opportunity to compare and contrast the album with an actual plate of diarrhea.

The first time I saw the ads for this band by ObviousTroll (4.00 / 1) #4 Fri Mar 17, 2006 at 02:38:57 PM EST
I thought I'd fallen into an episode of Sliders. The very existence of this band offends me in ways that Rock Godtm car commercials never did.

I mean, the only thing I can think of that would be more fundamentally bizarre would be for these kids to do a cover of Wango Tango.

What wholly inappropriate band (though, a way Devo is perfectly appropriate) should Disney do next?

The Misfits
The Cramps
Genitorturers
Captain Beefheart
Pansy Division
Velvet Underground

And so on . . .

I was thinking Butthole Surfers myself. If only so they'd have to put that name on the front of the album.

Since Disney has already hired by MohammedNiyalSayeed (4.00 / 3) #11 Fri Mar 17, 2006 at 03:06:15 PM EST

Graeme Revell on a number of occasions, they've, in effect, already connected themselves to formative industrial music.

I remember totally losing my shit when Devo appeared on "Square Pegs", performing "Good Thing"; I had just spent that whole summer cruising around listening to a "mixtape" containing nothing but the song "Speed Racer", over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again.

Holy Crap, not only have they hired the dude for soundtrack work, he's executive producing a film for them based on a screenplay about, in essence, the origins of SPK, which he formed with 3 mental patients at an asylum he was an orderly at in Australia.

The end, truly, is nigh!

Second on my list of Disney re-dos is the freak show that is "GWAR".
