- There is a new Fry's Electronics in Oxnard, California.
- Civilization IV is on sale for $30.
- The "Collector's Edition" is on sale for $36.
- I do not live particularly close to Oxnard
- ... though some people actually commute to and from Oxnard on a daily basis.
- Those people are generally lawyers, real estate agents, and other high-income types.
- But I did happen to be in the Oxnard area with time on my hands.
- The Oxnard Fry's does not have a theme.
- This is disappointing, to say the least.
- Also disappointing: the performance of Civilization IV on my AMD64 system.
- A 64MB video card is the minimum requirement? 128MB suggested?
- Sure, my 64MB video card came out in 2003, and I got it for real cheap.
- Is this really the same Sid Meier who wrote the original Civilization to run on a 486?
- Not only does the game performance suck, the Bink playback is plagued by audio dropouts.
- But that's okay, because the opening video is fucking trite.
- I didn't like Civ III much either
- ... but at least I could play it on my laptop
- ... which had a 2 1/2MB video card.
- It feels like 1995 all over again.
- Which I guess means we've reached another legacy marker for PC hardware.
- Save that old Windows 98 box if you ever want to play Starcraft again.
- In other news:
- The SCORM 2004 spec is about 200% better than the previous version.
- Real estate inventories are growing.
- My local 7-11 is out of ear wax candy.
- NaNoWriMo begins tomorrow.
